Definition of Cybercrime

  1. Definition of Cybercrime    

    Cybercrime is a crime committed by using computer technology as the main crime tool. Cybercrime is a crime that utilizes the development of computer technology, especially the internet. Cybercrime or cyber crime can be defined as an unlawful act committed using the internet based on the sophistication of computer and communication technology.

    Andi Hamzah in his book "Criminal Aspects in the  Computer Sector" (1989) defines cybercrime as a crime in the computer field in general can be interpreted as the illegal use of computers.  

2. Types of Cybercrime 

Based on the type of activity carried out, cybercrime can be classified into several types as follows :  

a. Unauthorized Access To Computer Systemand Service

    Is a crime that occurs when someone enters or infiltrates a computer network system illegally, without permission, or without the knowledge of the owner of the computer network system that he enters. Probing and ports are examples of this crime.

b. Illegal Content 

    Is a crime committed by entering data or information into the internet about something that is not true, unethical, and can be considered to violate the law or disturb public order, for example pornography, spreading false news.  

c. Intentional Spread of Virus 

    The spread of the virus is generally done by using email. Often people whose email systems have a virus don't realize this. The virus is then sent elsewhere via email.  

d. Data Forgery 

    This type of crime is carried out with the aim of falsifying data on important documents stored as scriptless documents via the internet. These documents are usually owned by institutions or institutions that have web-based database sites.  

e. card 

    Carding is a crime committed to steal someone else's credit card number and use it in trade transactions on the internet.  

f. Hacking and Crackers 

    The term hacker usually refers to someone who has a great interest in studying computer systems in detail and how to improve their capabilities. As for those who often carry out destructive actions on the internet, they are usually called crackers. You could say this cracker is actually a hacker who uses his abilities for negative things. Cracking activities on the internet have a very broad scope, ranging from hijacking other people's accounts, website hijacking, probing, spreading viruses, to disabling targets. The latter action is referred to as DoS (DenialOfService). Dos attack is an attack that aims to paralyze the target (hang, crash) so that it cannot provide services.  

2. Understanding Cyberlaw  

    Cyberlaw is a rule in the form of a law created specifically for the digital world or the internet. With the increasing number and development of crimes and crimes that exist in the internet world, it is inevitable that these laws and regulations must be made. Cyberlaw itself covers every aspect related to individuals or legal subjects who use and utilize internet technology starting when they start online and enter the cyber or cyber world.  

3. Cyberlaw's Purpose  

    Cyberlaw is very much needed, in relation to efforts to prevent criminal acts, or to handle criminal acts. Cyberlaw will be the legal basis in the law enforcement process against crimes by electronic means and computers, including crimes of theft of money and crimes of terrorism.
